StoneDog Studios (of Freehold) Creates a Playful Setting for the Hilarious "Spamalot" Opening Tonight - West Chester, PA
King Arthur's "Spamalot" musical parody featuring set designed by women-owned and operated StoneDog Studios that services NYC and Pa. area.

The hilarious musical parody of the King Arthur's legend "Spamalot", opening Saturday April 1, by the Resident Theater Company (RTC) in West Chester, Pa., presented just the kind of creative challenge StoneDog Studios likes to take on - a medieval castle set, capable of handling lots of different scenes and rollicking action by the knights and others on a short timeframe.
StoneDog Studios, a design and fabrication scene/set shop in Freehold, NJ owned by Quinn Stone, has been providing creative solutions for film, television, theater, photography, exhibits and marketing events since 2008. One of the few woman-owned businesses in that industry, StoneDog, a creative collective serving a variety of clients. "Spamalot” is their latest creation.
“We love a challenge and thrive on creative collaboration with our clients” said Stone, noting that the StoneDog staff has over 20 years experience. “The process varies with each project but it’s a beautiful visual to see all the moving parts and creations come together.”

For “Spamalot,” StoneDog collaborated with Artistic Director Kristin McLaughlin Mitchell and Designer Lance Kniskern on the colorful set. StoneDog fabricated and applied the base painting to the set pieces while the designer applied all of the textures and details. There were many pieces that needed to function during performances and platforms that had to be structurally stable. The set is on stage at the brand new state-of-the-art theater in downtown West Chester operated by the Uptown Alliance, part of an arts renaissance in the area.

"It's a set where Chaucer meets Rowan & Martin. Old stone walls decorated with brightly colored doors where anyone and anything could pop out at any time. A fun setting for a modern adult fairy tale." said set designer Kniskern.
RTC’s Advisory Board members praised StoneDog’s finished product:
"The set beautifully captures the magic, the humor and the off kilter medieval sensibility of the production," said Mark Allen, Director of Academics and Founder and Director of the PALCS Center for Performing and Fine Arts (CPFA) and an RTC Advisory Board member. "Most of all, the set captures the artistry that is RTC."

"It's like the set becomes a springboard for creativity. New life, new laughs. It's fun to watch it happen.”
