Suspect Accused In Chester County Beating Of Man With Cerebral Palsy Draws National Ire

The man accused of sucker punching a man with cerebral palsy has drawn national attention and fury as video of the incident circulated.

WEST CHESTER, PA — The man accused of sucker punching and mocking a man with cerebral palsy in West Chester has drawn national attention from social media and brought a heap of collected rage down upon the suspect.

The incident was captured by a surveillance camera and rapidly circulated through news outlets and social media on Monday afternoon.

There appeared to be no motive for Coatesville's Barry Baker, 29, when he first mocked, and then sucker punched, the 22-year-old victim with cerebral palsy outside of the 200 South High Street at around 2:30 a.m. on May 10.

A Facebook page entitled "Political Correctness Gone Wild" shared a link to a story about the attack, along with a short paragraph giving the address and phone number to Baker's place of work. The post urges Facebook users to "make this scumbag famous for his cowardly actions of mocking and sucker punching a person with a disability." The post had been shared more than 1,200 times as of Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, the Yelp page for Baker's business, a landscaping service, received dozens of one-star reviews.

Baker has been charged with misdemeanor counts of simple assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct.

Bail for Baker was set at ten percent of $25,000, which he posted before he was released. A preliminary hearing is set for May 30.
