Valentine's Card Calls For Climate Action From Rep. Costello

Activists said Rep. Costello had recognized climate change, but called for him to back up his words with legislation.

WEST CHESTER, PA — A giant Valentine's Day card was presented to U.S. Rep. Ryan Costello's (R-PA 6) office in West Chester on Wednesday morning by activists who urged the local Congressman to do more to fight climate change.

Rep. Costello is a member of Congress' Climate Solutions Caucus, and has helped to lead a conservative charge to acknowledge the existence of the science which paints a bleak future for the planet. Last March, he introduced the "Republican Climate Resolution" along with 17 GOP Congressmen, spearheading a conservative push to recognize and fight against climate change.

Activists recognized Costello's work, but said it's time for him to do more. Specifically, they pointed to his legislative record.

"An elected official cannot claim to be a champion of climate change and then vote to expand drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge at the same time," PennEnvironment Organizer, Jess Cadorette, said in a statement. “In order to be the true environmental champion we need, Congressman Costello must vote the right way on the environment every time--and proactively lead his colleagues to push for climate solutions."

Activists want Costello to defend Clean Car Standards and promote fuel-efficient and electrical vehicles.

On Wednesday, around ten activists were outside of Costello's office, holding giant Valentine's Day cards shaped as hearts. One read: “Congressman Costello, #BeOurClimateSweetheart.”

"No matter your political affiliation, everyone needs clean air, clean water, and a livable climate," Cadorette added.
