Vintage Base Ball hits West Chester
Catch living history as the Brandywine Base Ball Club (BBBC) compete against other vintage base ball clubs from the Mid-Atlantic region
The Brandywine Base Ball Club (BBBC) of West Chester, PA are recruiting players of all ages (15-75) and skill sets, umpires, historians, volunteers and fans for the upcoming 2015 season. BBBC plays a weekend only schedule April through October. The club competes in a vintage base ball league against clubs from NY, NJ, DE, MD, VA and PA. The name of the league is the Mid-Atlantic Vintage Base Ball League (MAVBBL).
Vintage base ball (two words in the 1800’s) is similar to modern baseball but with a different twist. We replicate how the game was played in the 1860’s by wearing replica uniforms and using equipment (wooden bats, etc.) similar to the time period.
Vintage rules are also different from the modern game. There is one important rule in vintage base ball. No gloves, yes barehanded base ball! The game was once played without gloves. Also the ball can bounce once and be caught for an out.
