West Chester Police: Celebrate Eagles Responsibly

No word about putting Crisco on poles around West Chester, but "Purge"-style behavior will not be accepted just because the Birds win.

WEST CHESTER, PA — There is no word yet about putting Crisco on poles around West Chester, but police are nonetheless warning residents to celebrate the Eagles responsibly this weekend.

The Eagles and Patriots Super Bowl showdown, slated for Sunday, will surely generate massive excitement downtown and on the streets throughout the borough. In the case of an Eagles win, police are prepared for that celebration to grow to the point of lunacy, much as it did when the Phillies won the World Series in 2008 or when the Eagles won the NFC Championship two weeks ago (leading one fan to drive an ATV up the Art Museum steps).

"Purge"-style behavior will not be accepted just because the Birds end their Super Bowl drought, however, police warn.

"Throwing objects, damaging property or acting in a menacing or threatening way, will result in being arrested, which is not a good way to end your evening," police said in a statement. "West Chester is fortunate to have an exceptional community and university in which we live where everyone plays a role in keeping our town safe. It is our hope that everyone enjoys the Super Bowl Game and will celebrate in a safe and responsible manner after the Philadelphia Eagles win."
