Wilkes-Barre announced emergency warning light installation at Hollenback Fire Station (timesleader.com) — New emergency warning lights are now operating at Wilkes-Barre's Hollenback Fire Station on North Washington Street, aiming to protect both first responders and drivers. The city-funded system lets fire and EMS crews trigger flashing signals when leaving or returning, after several near-miss incidents. Officials urge motorists traveling near George Avenue to watch for the new lights and yield to emergency vehicles. 
2. DEP Sets Sept. 15 Hearing On Blythe Recycling & Demolition [BRADS] Landfill Permit Modification Related To Leachate Hauling At Its Facility In Schuylkill County (blogspot.com) — Wilkes-Barre residents can submit written comments to DEP's Northeast Regional Office on a proposed leachate-hauling permit change for the BRADS landfill in Schuylkill County through September 15. A public hearing will be held that evening in Saint Clair, and permit documents are available by appointment through the Wilkes-Barre office.
3. Nanticoke murder suspect to get new attorneys (citizensvoice.com) — A Wilkes-Barre man accused of killing his girlfriend in Nanticoke will get new court-appointed attorneys after a Luzerne County judge ruled his relationship with current counsel is irretrievably broken. Prosecutors say the 2023 hammer killing was witnessed by the victim's young daughter, and the defendant remains jailed without bail on homicide and related charges. The change in lawyers is expected to delay the long-pending trial.
4. Last first day for students at Penn State Wilkes-Barre (wnep.com) — Students at Penn State Wilkes-Barre are starting what will be the final academic year before the branch campus closes due to declining enrollment. Parking lots and classrooms are noticeably emptier, and many students are shifting to online or hybrid schedules. Those still finishing degrees may complete them at the Wilkes-Barre campus or transfer to another Penn State location.
5. HS GOLF: Hazleton Area's Woznicki wins Tryba Memorial in playoff (citizensvoice.com) — A Wilkes-Barre Area boys golf squad competed in the season-opening Tom Tryba Memorial at Fox Hill Country Club, where Hazleton Area's Liam Woznicki won in a playoff. The tournament featured teams from across the Wyoming Valley Conference and highlighted both boys' and girls' individual and team scores to kick off the high school golf season.
