Federal tax credits--$7500 new, up to $400 used--are going away Sept. 30. Ditching a gas vehicle saves the average buyer $700 to $1200 a year. Gas is $3.20 a gallon. The equivalent electric charge is $1.20. No oil changes. No gas station stops.
