Best-Selling Author Coming To Gather Place In Yardley Sunday

YARDLEY, PA —The Gather Place is launching a gift drive for the month of December and holding a meet-and-greet with a best-selling author Sunday.

The non-profit organization will launch a "Family Gift Giving Drive" that will take place on Saturdays and Sundays throughout December. A gift donations drop-off box will be available between noon and 3 p.m. at the Old A.M.E. Church, 188 South Canal St. in Yardley.

Gather Place is seeking unwrapped toys, games, and grocery and food gift cards.

On Sunday at 3 p.m., the Gather Place will host a meet-and-greet fundraiser event with best-selling author and photojournalist Lawrence Schiller.

Attendees will learn about Schiller's career and iconic photography and be able to bid on his autographed books and framed photography selected from his private collection that he is donating to the fundraiser.

The works feature James Earl Jones, Barbra Streisand, Marilyn Monroe, the Jackson 5, and Muhammad Ali and Floyd Patterson. The event also includes holiday-themed music, wine, and hors d'oeuvres.

Proceeds will be used for the restoration of the old A.M.E Church Historic Yardley Borough, the home of Gather Place.

The historic landmark is now open with a renewed mission under the conservatorship of Shirley Lee Corsey and is being restored through donations and grants. Its goals include providing meaningful community-based events and activities that tell the story about Yardley Borough’s rich history of its families, neighborhoods, and culture.
