Friends Village offers community living rooted in purpose, belonging and choice. Blending Quaker values and active aging, we promote connection and care for one another. Our residents live well, engaged with the wider world and confident they will have support should they need it. Located on two campuses, Friends Village provides independent living and personal care in peaceful settings embedded in residential neighborhoods. Our Paxson Campus is in the heart of Newtown Borough, close to shops, dining and local events. Our Styer Campus, on Lower Dolington Road, boasts raised-bed gardens and walking paths for resident enjoyment. The full calendar of resident-informed programming features lectures, wellness classes, discussion groups and cultural events to promote residents’ intellectual, physical and social well-being. If needed, Friends Village provides our residents with flexible, affordable support in their own apartments through its NeighborCare program. By using our long-tenured and dedicated staff, it is a home care service without the onerous minimum hours or uncertain staffing of agencies. And if care needs increase further, personal care is available in our historic Paxson Hall. What truly sets Friends Village apart is the warm sense of community. While residents remain connected outside of our walls, our small size and intentional approach ensure that each resident is known and know that they genuinely belong – they thrive, make new friends and live well. The Old Library by Lake Afton

The fascinating story of how Quakers changed from being enslavers to actively opposing slavery, participating in the Underground Railroad, and even becoming leaders in the abolitionist movement will be shared by author and historian Pat Mervine.&nbsp;&nbsp;While researching their book, Slavery, Friends, and Freedom in Bucks County, Pat Mervine and co-author Joe Coleman delved deep into the African American journey in Southeastern Pennsylvania focusing on the period from the 1600s to the post-Civil War era. This presentation will deal with the greater story, with particular emphasis on the Quakers in Bucks County - what caused their mind shift and how they took action.&nbsp; This free program is open to the public.&nbsp; &nbsp;Seating will be on a first-come basis.
