Lower Makefield officials said that the public works crew and outside contractors were able to take advantage of the nice weather over the Thanksgiving weekend to complete the first round of leaf collection.
"While this was a little ahead of schedule, we consider ourselves fortunate this year to beat any potential winter weather. As we all know, this time of year the weather can feel like fall one day and flip to snow overnight," officials said.
Township officials said they use the same equipment for leaf collection process as for winter storm events.
"In the event of a winter storm, crews would have to transform the leaf trucks to snowplows and/or salt trucks to service the roads," officials said. "Due to these varying circumstances, the crew may be ahead or behind schedule. The township asks that residents prepare a few days ahead of scheduled pickup."
Officials ask residents to keep leaf piles off the roadways, away from storm inlets, and away from obstacles like mailboxes and trees.
Anyone with questions should call the public works department at 267-274-1130.
