LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — There was so much interest Monday night in a proposed Wegman's grocery in Lower Makefield that township planning officials postponed discussion of the plan to seek out a venue that can handle bigger crowds.

Many of the hundreds who showed up at a meeting of the township's planning commission were there to oppose plans for the store, which would be part of a 36-acre, mixed-use development off of Stony Hill Road.

After about an hour of discussion, during which attendees reportedly shouted at developers and complained they couldn't see or hear, members of the commission voted to suspend the hearing and seek out a bigger building, possibly a Pennsbury school building.

The development, called Prickett Run at Edgewood, is proposed to be located on a strip of land between Stony Hill Road and I-295, just across from Shady Brook Farm.

Developers DeLuca Homes and Equus Capital say the development would be a "live, work, play" community across from the farm, which is a popular destination for visitors.

If approved, it would be the second Wegmans in Bucks County. The popular supermarket chain has an existing store in Warrington.

Critics say the project would bring too much traffic to an already busy roadway and could pave the way for even more development in the area.
