Pennsbury Board Parting Ways With Superintendent Gretzula

The board voted 5-4 late Thursday night to launch a search for a new superintendent.

YARDLEY, PA — The Pennsbury School District board will part ways with current Superintendent William Gretzula. At a meeting late Thursday, the board voted 5-4 to retain the services of a consulting firm to find his replacement.

Gretzula's current contract with the school system expires on June 30. He has served in the role since 2016.

At the meeting, Chairman T.R. Kannan said that the board was finalizing a contract offer to Gretzula last week when he told them he no longer wanted to be considered for the post.

According to minutes of the meeting, the board voted to enter into an agreement with Bucks County Schools Intermediate Unit to conduct the search.

Earlier this year, Gretzula had said he was not interested in remaining in the position. But after citizens packed an October meeting urging the board to keep him, the board said it was re-opening talks with Gretzula.

"This is a sad day for Pennsbury," board member Gary Sanderson said Thursday night, according to Bucks Local News. "I’m sorry to see it come to this. I don’t think we continued our negotiations really in all that good faith. We could have done a better job ... . I will continue to support Dr. Gretzula through his tenure with Pennsbury, which will end on June 30. He made wanted and positive changes in the district. This is a sad day for us and the community."
