Pennsbury Prom Students Going For World Record

Those attending what's been called the nation's best prom appear to have blown away the previous Guinness record, set in 2012.

YARDLEY, PA — By all accounts, what's been called the best prom in the U.S. was a success again in 2019 at Pennsbury High School. And the students who attended may have broken a world record in the process.

At the rock and pop-music themed prom on Saturday, those in attendance puckered up in an effort to break the Guinness World Record for the largest number of kisses captured on a mural.

The unofficial count — 41,692 lipstick smooches on a mural that reads "Rock Music" — would blow away the previous record of 13,316 set in Brazil in 2012.

According to school spokeswoman Ann Langtry, the effort to verify the record-breaking kiss-a-thon is still ongoing. Project leaders Amy and Gary Nolan, who are Pennsbury parents, are working to get the new record documented by the Guiness team.

They know a little about Guinness records. Gary Nolan holds the record for running the fastest marathon while dressed in a Colonial American costume. The Nolans' daughter, Melanie, is a graduating senior at PHS this year.
