Pennsbury Student Earns Perfect ACT Score

Only about two-tenths of one percent of students who take the test earn its highest score, ACT officials said.

YARDLEY, PA — A Pennsbury High School senior is being honored for earning a rare perfect score on the college-entrance ACT test.

William Bednarz was notified that he'd scored a 36 composite ACT score — the test's highest possible score, the school district announced Wednesday. Only about two-tenths of one percent of students who take the test earn its highest score, ACT officials said.

The ACT consists of tests in English, math, reading, and science, each scored on a scale of 1-36. A student’s composite score is the average of the four test scores.

William also was honored by the high school administration last year as a winner of the Rensselaer Medal and scholarship, awarded to promising high school juniors who have distinguished themselves in mathematics and science.

"The Rensselaer Medal is a wonderful way to pay tribute to the high school students who have achieved excellence in math and science," said Karen Long, Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. "As we do so, we are aware that these early achievements, as impressive as they are, mark only one milestone on their future journeys of commitment to hard work, drive, focus, and collaborations.
