Pennwood Odyssey Squad Heads To World Finals

YARDLEY, PA — Some seventh graders from Pennwood Middle School are in Michigan this week, representing their school in the Odyssey of the Mind world finals.

Pennsbury School District Superintendent William Gretzula met with the team Tuesday before they headed to Michigan State University.

World finals in the competition run from May 22-25 at Michigan State's campus in East Lansing.

Odyssey of the Mind is a creative, problem-solving program for students from kindergarten through college. Team members work together to solve long-term problems and present their solutions to them.

The same team of students headed to Michigan made it to Worlds two years ago when they were fifth graders at Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School. This year, the team came in second at regionals and states to qualify for the world finals.

They completed a problem titled "Classics ... Leonardo's Workshop" in doing so.

Team members include Harshavi Birla, Milo Cabral, Dominic Gentile, Daniel Kim, Megan Oleynick, Sophie Oleynick and Caylee VanVeen. Their coach is Pennsbury parent Krista Oleynick.
