Porch Package Thefts On Rise In Lower Makefield Twp.

Lower Makefield Township Police have reported several incidents of package thefts over the past week.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA —Here comes the holidays, and here comes the porch pirates who are swiping packages throughout the Philadelphia region now that people are preparing to buy presents and order merchandise online.

The Lower Makefield Township Police Department reported in its police blotter two such incidents over the past week:

Nov. 5

  • THEFT —1500 block of Candace Lane, reported at 4:29 p.m. The complainant reported the theft of a package from the front porch.

Nov. 4

  • THEFT —700 block of Stewarts Way, reported at 3:42 p.m. The complainant reported the theft of a package from their front porch.

Police are encouraging homeowners who don't have Ring cameras to get them.

Police said they know of at least six other package thefts, but there could be more.

"They go around looking for peoples' packages on their porches and then they scoop them right up. But, the police are aware where to look. If they see packages on the porch they'll go up and knock," Police Chief Kenneth Coluzzi told Action News 6 recently.
