Remembering 9/11 Victims: Garden Of Reflection Ceremony Monday

A ceremony Monday morning in Lower Makefield Township will read the names of 18 Bucks County victims who died in the Sept. 11 attacks.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA —The Garden of Reflection —home of the official Pennsylvania 9/11 Memorial —is holding its annual ceremony to remember the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks on America on Monday.

The morning remembrance will start at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony at The Garden of Reflection on 1950 Woodside Road. will include the reading of names of the 18 victims who resided in Bucks County.

Those include Victor Saracini, who was killed when United Airlines flight 175 he piloted was highjacked and flown into the World Trade Center. His wife Ellen works tirelessly year-round on an annual 5K and other events to raise money to support the memorial.

Participants at the ceremony will then be invited to visit The Garden of Reflection Memorial on Monday.

A bell will continue to mark the Sept. 11, 2001, timeline, each followed by a moment of silence.

The timeline is as follows:

  • 8:30 a.m. — Ceremony will begin with the toll of the bell 9 times for the 9 victims who resided in Lower Makefield Township
  • 8:47 a.m. —Bell Toll for North Tower
  • 9:03 a.m. —Bell Toll for South Tower
  • 9:30 a.m. —Conclusion of the ceremony, participants invited to walk the grounds
  • 9:37 a.m. —Bell Toll for Pentagon
  • 9:59 a.m. —Bell Toll collapse of South Tower
  • 10:07 a.m. —Bell Toll Flight 93, Shanksville
  • 10:28 a.m. —Bell Toll Collapse North Tower

Monday evening will offer a quiet time of remembrance as the community is invited to walk the memorial on a self-guided tour.

Continuing on, the night Remembrance Ceremonies will be held every 5th-year anniversary, organizers said.

Meanwhile, The 20th Annual 911 Memorial Garden of Reflection 5K Run/Walk takes place on Sunday.

Proceeds help ensure the sustainability of the Remembrance Fund endowment to preserve
The Garden of Reflection memorial for future generations. The fund supports the maintenance of the memorial in perpetuity.
