Santarsiero To Host Real ID Phone Town Hall

YARDLEY, PA — Still trying to figure out all the ins and outs of Pennsylvania's Real ID law? State Sen. Steve Santarsiero will be hosting a "telephone town hall" to help.

The town hall is set for 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7. Sarah Baker, the program manager for Real ID at PennDOT, will be joining.

Residents will be able to ask her and Santarsiero questions about Real ID, as well as listen to a discussion about other important issues in the district and around the state.

While Real IDs are optional and are not needed to drive or vote, you'll need it to board a domestic commercial flight as of Oct. 1, 2020 if you don't have an alternative federally-acceptable identification, such as a valid passport or military ID card.

Real ID Now Available In Pennsylvania: What To Know

In addition to needing it for a domestic flight, you'll need the Real ID to enter a federal building or military installation if you don't have a passport or military ID card.

The REAL ID Act was passed after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks to establish minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards. Pennsylvania has received several extensions to implement the requirements.

Santarsiero's 10th District includes Bedminster, Buckingham, Doylestown, East Rockhill, Falls, Haycock, Hilltown, Lower Makefield, New Britain, Newtown, Plumstead, Solebury, Upper Makefield and West Rockhill township, as well as Chalfont, Doylestown, Dublin, Morrisville, New Britain, New Hope, Newtown, Perkasie, Sellersville, Silverdale, Telford (Bucks County Portion), Tullytown and Yardley boroughs.
