YARDLEY, PA —The long-awaited sidewalk renovation project set for North Main Street is expected to begin in the next few weeks.

Borough Council provided project updates at a recent meeting saying that Phase II of the sidewalk project has the green light following a pre-construction meeting that was held.

Officials said the project should begin in mid-October and take six weeks to complete.

Councilman Christopher Campellone, attending his final meeting on Sept. 6 before he announced his resignation, worried whether the work would be completed before winter.

"We don't want to start the work and then snow hits us," he said.

The project's complete, though, is weather permitting.

Meanwhile, the third phase of the project is pending PennDOT approval, borough officials said. The project had to be resubmitted.

During the engineer's report from the Sept. 6 meeting:

  • Consideration of Bid for 45 South Delaware —The borough received one bid from Premier Builders, which exceeds the budgeted amount. The engineer recommended rejecting and rebidding the project with costs not to exceed $2,000. The motion was approved 6-0.
  • Consideration of Bid for 46 Brown Street—The borough received three bids and the lowest bid exceeds the budgeted amount. That bid was also rejected with a rebid for the elevation project not to exceed $2,000.

Board President Caroline Thompson cautioned her colleagues that "each time we rebid, it costs us $2,000."
