LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — A Yardley Borough business has received recognition from its neighboring community.
Yardley Borough Mayor Caroline Thompson appeared at the Lower Makefield Township Board of Supervisors last week as the Yardley Refillery was recognized with the township's EAC Environmental Stewardship Award.
Thompson said the award includes a plaque and a $1,000 stipend, which the refillery then donated to The River Keepers Network. "And thanks to Lower Makefield Township for reaching across municipal lines to recognize our gem."

Yardley Refillery held its official grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Lower Bucks County Chamber of Commerce last in mid-November of 2023, attended by state and local politicians and other community members.
The business replaced a longtime gift shop at the corner of South Main Street and Afton Avenue at the main intersection in the heart of the borough's downtown district.

"We are the first. It's something we promote," Owner Jaime Alford told Patch at the time of the opening.
Alford said the business offers about 500 different types of products and supplies, everything from coffee beans and dry goods to shampoo and birdseed, and everything in between.
Alford said there are similar refilleries in Philadelphia and South Jersey and one on the Main Line, but the business is unique to Bucks County.
