YARDLEY, PA —Councilman John McCann has tendered his resignation, marking the fourth council member to leave the seven-member board since September.

At the end of its Borough Council meeting Tuesday, President Caroline Thompson read a resignation letter that McCann submitted to the borough. His resignation was effective June 20 and McCann was not present at the meeting.

"It has been an honor to serve this great community of Yardley and work with such talented and dedicated council members and staff," McCann said. "I have learned a great deal from my colleagues on council and borough staff and I will remember this experience fondly forever. I'm stepping down because my family is moving to Lower Makefield to a house that better fits our family's needs. But I truly will miss this bucolic community. Yardley Borough is a truly unique place and I am comforted by the fact that our new home is a short distance to this place that we have grown to love. I really felt that council has had a tremendous impact on the well-being of our citizens through our work."

McCann said during his four years on the board that the borough made "considerable progress" on important public works projects while increasing transparency, addressing citizen concerns, improving the budget process, enhancing the business climate, growing community events, and better funding the police department.

Thompson thanked McCann for his efforts.

"We will miss him and we wish him and his family well."

In early January, two-term Councilman Uri Feiner was appointed to replace Councilman Matt Ross, who had also moved to Lower Makefield Township.

In early September, Councilmen David Appelbaum and Don Carlson filled the vacancies of David Bria and Chris Campellone, who resigned because they were moving out of town.
