Yardley Receives 'Growing Greener' Grant

The project's goal is to develop a formal watershed management plan for the Buck Creek Watershed, which includes Lake Afton.

YARDLEY, PA — Yardley Borough has been awarded a state environmental grant meant to help develop a plan for the area's watershed.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection selected Yardley to receive an Environmental Stewardship and Watershed Protection "Growing Greener" Grant in the amount of $69,923, the full amount requested.

Borough officials say the goal of the project proposed with the funds is to develop a formal watershed management plan for the Buck Creek Watershed. The watershed runs from Lower Makefield Township through the Borough of Yardley and includes Lake Afton.

Yardley’s Environmental Advisory Committee submitted the grant application in July and
was chosen from over 200 applications. The project is expected to take 2-3 years to complete, officials say.

"On behalf of the entire community, the Borough of Yardley, and the Yardley Borough EAC, I
would like to thank the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for granting us
this opportunity," said Michael Thompson, chair of Yardley’s EAC. "We are excited to
collaborate with PADEP, engage the surrounding communities, and work to protect the natural
resources we have been blessed with."
