Two Rhode Island women hit it big with lottery wins.
A Portsmouth woman scored a $40,000 prize in the June 26 Mega Millions drawing, according to the Rhode Island Lottery.
"The frequent Mega Millions player said she was shocked when the ticket matched four numbers and Mega Ball number for a base prize of $10,000, quadrupling to $40,000 thanks to the randomly generated 4X Multiplier on her ticket," according to a Rhode Island Lottery media release. "She plans to use the winnings to pay bills."
The woman bought her winning ticket from the Stop & Shop at 1360 West Main Road in Middletown.
In addition the luck Portsmouth woman, a woman from Coventry claimed a $22,500 Keno Plus prize.
"The winner matched seven out of seven spots on a $1 wager, winning a base prize of $4,500," the release said. "She doubled her wager and added the Keno Plus feature and when the 5X multiplier was drawn, her winnings grew to $22,500."
The winning woman "plans to put the money in the bank, saying, 'I'm going to retire someday,'" according to the release.
The woman bought her ticket at Woods Tavern, on Nooseneck Hill Road in West Greenwich.
