The Fourth of July weekend will be dangerously hot in Rhode Island, according to the National Weather Service.
The long weekend starts with isolated thunderstorms Friday, the National Weather Service forecast says, and when it's not raining, it will be sunny and hot, with a high temperature approaching 97 degrees and heat index values as high as 106.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue into Friday night as the low temperature drops to 75 degrees.
Expect more isolated thunderstorms on a Fourth of July that will be otherwise be partly sunny and hot with a high of 91.
The extreme heat warning issued earlier in the week will continue until 8 p.m. Saturday.
"This is a prolonged and dangerous heatwave with little relief at night," the National Weather Service warned, adding "Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events."
"Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors," the National Weather Service advised.
The extreme heat warning ending Saturday night will be accompanied by more scattered showers and thunderstorms and a low around 70.
Sunday is partly sunny with a more bearable high near 83 degrees, and there is a chance of showers after 10 p.m. Sunday as the low drops to 63.
The work week starts on a cloudy Monday with a chance of showers and a high approaching 78 degrees.
