Warning: High Surf Advisory In Rhode Island

Inexperienced swimmers need to stay out of the water, the National Weather Service cautioned.

Rhode Island was placed under a high surf advisory.

The high surf advisory was to remain in effect until 9 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Large, breaking waves of up to 8 feet were expected in the surf zone, the National Weather Service warned, noting there was to be "dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion."

"Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions," the National Weather Service cautioned.

During the high surf advisory, Monday will be rainy and foggy with a high of 77 degrees.

Showers are likely on a cloudy Monday night as the low temperature drops to 63.
