Rhode Island's Veteran Homeless Rate Among Highest In America: Study

Rhode Island's rate of veteran homelessness was among the highest in America, a recent study revealed.

Rhode Island had the ninth highest rate of the 50 states, the analysis conducted by Vettory, a website focused on financial assistance and consumer information for veterans, determined.

"At 241.2 homeless veterans per 100,000 veteran population, Rhode Island holds ninth place among all 50 states, well above the national average of 169.9 and 16.9% above tenth-ranked Montana," according to the study.

The state with the highest rate was California, followed by Oregon and Nevada.

Rhode Island's rate also rose from 2020 to 2025, the years examined in the study, increasing by 35.9% from 92 to 125.

The states with the lowest veteran homeless rates were New Mexico, Mississippi and Virginia.
