Cumberland Man Shoots, Kills Wife Before Killing Self: Police

Police said last month's shooting left three children without parents.

CUMBERLAND, RI — Police determined that the Cumberland couple found dead last month died after the husband shot his wife, before turning the gun on himself.

According to police, on June 22, Eric Huard, 51, shot and killed himself, before fatally shooting his wife Courtney Huard, 42. The shooting happened at the couple's home in the 20th block of Birchwood Drive, police said.

"I would like to recognize the diligent efforts and collaborative approach of Cumberland Police detectives, the Rhode Island State Police, Attorney General Neronha’s office and the Office of State Medical Examiners," Police Chief Matthew Benson said. "We are reminded that there are three children who lost their parents, and two families that are devastated by the loss of their loved ones. Our thoughts continue to be with them at this time."
