Free ‘Skin Check’ Screenings At Rhode Island Beaches

Free "skin checks" will be available at Rhode Island beaches starting Friday.

The Rhode Island Department of Health, Brown Health Dermatology and partners statewide are teaming to conduct the free skin cancer screenings.

The first is from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Friday at Easton's Beach in Newport.

That will followed by:

• Saturday, July 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Roger Wheeler State Beach, Narragansett
• Saturday, July 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Scarborough State Beach, North, in Narragansett
• Friday, Aug. 14, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Scarborough State Beach, North, in Narragansett
• Saturday, Aug. 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lincoln Woods State Park beach in Lincoln

“Cancer screenings have the power to save lives,” Director of Health Dr. Jerry Larkin said in a media release.

"Along with getting in the shade, avoiding indoor tanning, and using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more, getting a skin check is one of the most important things you can do to protect against skin cancer," Larkin said. "Skin cancer can affect people of all skin tones and complexions, which is why all Rhode Islanders should take advantage of these free, convenient skin cancer checks."
