Great White Shark Caught, Tagged And Released Off Rhode Island

The Atlantic Shark Institute said it hopes to "track him for many years."

A great white shark was caught, tagged and released off Rhode Island.

"Meet Oscar!" the Atlantic Shark Institute posted to social media.

"He’s our newest great white shark (we have tagged more than 50) and he was tagged just three days ago here in RI," the post said. "He’s a very young juvenile and was released in great shape!"

Oscar was outfitted with an acoustic tag that is hoped to last 10 years, according to the institute, noting "we will hopefully track him for many years and migrations up and down the East Coast of the United States and Canada."
