Here Are Rhode Island's Top 10 Safest Cities, Study Says
Overall, the state had a strong showing with its low rates in both violent crime and property crime.
A new study examines the safest cities in every state in the country. The rankings from Safewise "are intended to highlight cities with low per capita crime and ignite conversation and action around how to make all cities and communities safer."

In Rhode Island, the analysis found that the safest community is Bristol.

"Everyone wants to feel safe at home," Safewise wrote. "Whether you're checking in on your current city or scouting out a new one, we've crunched the numbers on crime rates across the country."

Overall, Rhode Island fared well in the study. The violent crime rate in the Ocean is 1.68 incidents per 1,000 people, which is lower than the national average of 4.43.
Property crime has decreased in recent years, dropping from 16.5 incidents per 1,000 people in 2024 to 11.65 incidents in this year's report. That's a little more than half the national property crime rate of 22.89.

Rhode Islanders primarily protect their property with security cameras and guard dogs, according to Safewise.
