Nonprofits Across Rhode Island To Receive Nearly $7M In Grants

Wednesday's announcement by the Rhode Island Foundation comes as the deadline to apply for millions of dollars in additional funding nears.

Dozens of nonprofits across the state will share nearly $7 million in grants from two new grant programs launched last year as part of the Rhode Island Foundation’s new Five-Year Action Plan, the Foundation announced Wednesday.

“We are focused on crucial community priorities like civic and cultural life, housing and economic mobility, healthy and strong communities, sustainability, and education and student success,” Foundation President and CEO David N. Cicilline said in a media release.

The Foundation awarded more than $6.5 million from its new Community Priority Grants program, which provides programmatic and general operating support to organizations and programs that respond to one or more of the Foundation's community priorities and related focus areas, according to the release.

The East Bay Community Action Program, the Coalition for a Multilingual Rhode Island, Conexion Latina Newport, the Housing Network of Rhode Island, Mixed Magic Theatre, the Providence Resilience Partnership and the Healthcare Workforce Education Center are among the more than 100 nonprofits that received Community Priority grants, the release said.

In addition, the Foundation awarded more than $360,000 from its new Capacity Building Grants program, which primarily provides funding to support the infrastructure and/or technical assistance needs of organizations and programs that respond to one or more of the community priorities and related focus areas, according to the release.
