Rhode Island Airspace Among The Most Dangerous In America: Study

Rhode Island's airspace is among the most dangerous in America, a recent study revealed.

The study, conducted by the researchers at Beck & Beck Missouri Car Accident Lawyers, "examined aviation accidents recorded by the National Transportation Safety Board across all 50 U.S. states between 2016 and 2026, totaling 12,999 reported incidents," according to a media release accompanying the results of the analysis.

"Each state's accident density was calculated by dividing its total geographic area ... by the number of reported accidents," the release said. "The study measures accident density by area, not the probability of an accident per flight, per passenger, or per aircraft."

Rhode Island's rate of 73.6 square miles per accident was the third highest in the nation.

The only states with fewer square miles per accident were No. 2 Florida and the most dangerous, New Jersey.

"Every day, the skies above New Jersey carry an extraordinary burden that most residents never see," the release said.

Nestled between two of America's largest metropolitan areas, the Garden State's airspace accommodates commercial jets descending into Newark, private aircraft at Teterboro, helicopters crossing the Hudson, and training flights over the Pine Barrens, all competing for room in a corridor no wider than a few dozen miles," according to the release.

The three states with the safest airspace in America, according to the study, are North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.
