Rhode Island Heat Advisory, Air Quality Alert, Rip Current Warning Continue

It's still dangerously hot, may be hard to breathe and risky to swim in the ocean, the National Weather Service warned.

The Rhode Island heat advisory continues through 8 p.m. Wednesday, as does the rip current warning. The air quality alert remains in effect until noon Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

"Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses," the National Weather Service cautioned.

"Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors," the National Weather Service advised.

As for the rip current alert that is to last through Wednesday, the National Weather Service warned that they "can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water."

"Swim near a lifeguard," the National Weather Service recommended. "If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help."
