Public Invited to 8th Annual Regina F. Berenback Conversations on March 9th at Barrington Congregational Church-UCC
On Sunday, March 9, 11:45 am. to 1:00 pm., the Barrington Congregational Church-UCC will host the Regina F. Berenback Conversations featuring Rhode Island Public Radio health care reporter Kristin Gourlay, leading a discussion about health care in Rhode Island. The event will take place in Fellowship Hall, adjacent to the sanctuary at 461 County Rd., Barrington, RI.
Ms. Gourlay has won multiple local and national awards for her reporting. Her work airs on Rhode Island Public Radio and NPR stations throughout the country. After working with NPR teams in Kentucky and Wyoming, she joined the Rhode Island station in July 2012. In addition to covering the health beat on the radio, Ms. Gourlay is the author of The Pulse, a blog dealing with a variety of local and national health concerns.
The public is invited to join this timely conversation on health and wellness in the state of Rhode Island. The event is free and a light lunch will be provided. For more information, contact the BCC-UCC church office at 401-246-0111.
The Regina F. Berenback series of talks was established in 2007 by the Justice and Witness ministry team at the church in memory of its former chairperson and longtime church congregant, Regina Furnari Berenback, who passed away in April 2006 at the age of fifty-three from pancreatic cancer. Regina believed that faith environments can provide a forum to take on tough social issues in a non-political and non-threatening setting.
A distinguished group of speakers has led past Berenback events, including Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Roberts; Jorge Elorza, then Professor of Law at Roger Williams University and Co-Chairman of the Latino Policy Institute (now a candidate for Mayor of Providence); former United States Senator (and current Governor) Lincoln Chafee; Professor Jennifer Lawless from the Political Science Department Brown University (Professor Lawless is now the Director of the Women and Politics Institute at American University); and Sarah Schumann, shellfish harvester, environmentalist and founder of Eating with the Ecosystem.
