Barrington Native Honored At Celtics Game As Hero Among Us

BOSTON, MA — The Boston Celtics honored a Barrington native for raising money for those who rely on ostomy supplies.

"Living with ulcerative colitis, Barrington native Lucas Newton has experienced firsthand how access to care and support can shape a person’s health journey," according to a media release.

"Motivated to advocate for others facing similar challenges, Newton transformed his senior project into a fundraiser with purpose," the release said. "With the support of his community, he raised more than $5,000 to provide critical resources for individuals who rely on ostomy supplies — items that are essential to daily comfort, health, and dignity."

Newton was recognized as a Hero Among Us during the Boston Celtics’ Jan. 9 home game against the Toronto Raptors, in conjunction with the team’s Make-A-Wish Night.

"Since its establishment in 1997 by the Boston Celtics, the Heroes Among Us program has recognized outstanding individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to their communities," the release said. "The award is presented at every Celtics home game and pays tribute to the heroic achievements of these outstanding citizens."
