Boys Win Streak Snapped; Girls Stay Unbeaten in RI
Division-leading Rogers beats the Eagles, 66-61; Barrington romps over North Providence, 63-32.

Barrington High’s boys’ basketball team had its seven-game winning streak snapped by Rogers High School Monday night in Newport, 66-61.
Patrick Sullivan, Barrington head coach, described it as a “tough loss” because the Eagles had a chance to tie the game with 15 seconds left.
“We couldn’t put the ball in the basket,” Sullivan said.

And Rogers, which leads Division II East, hit 6 of 6 free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
Barrington bounced back from a first half that saw the Vikings dominate and take a 37-24 lead into the second stanza. With three minutes to play, Barrington managed to close within a point. But the Eagles couldn’t complete the comeback.

Barrington senior Connor Fiske led all scorers with 21 points, including four 3-pointers. Sophomore Ben Engvall added 13 and senior Michael Zimmerman added 12, including two 3-pointers.
With the second loss this year to Rogers, Barrington falls to 10-5 in the division. Rogers improves to 12-2. The boys’ next game is at Ponaganset High on Wednesday at 7 pm.
Meanwhile, Barrington High’s girls’ team rolled to a 63-32 win over North Providence at home Monday to remain undefeated in Division I play.
The Eagles piled up a 40-7 halftime lead against North Providence, which is still looking for its first win.
Barrington’s all-state tandem of Catherine Matthews and Kelly Mannix led the way with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Caitlyn Nolan added 10 points.
The win upped the Eagles’ record to 13-0 in divisional play and 17-1 overall with the only loss coming to defending Massachusetts state champion Andover High School on the road.
The girls’ next game is Wednesday at home against Lincoln High School at 7 pm.
