Breaking Down the NHL Trade Deadline

Hockey fans hope their team scores big in this year's trade deadline.

Obviously NHL is not as popular as the NFL or NBA, but a very exciting day is approaching for hockey fans around the country. The trade deadline for the NHL is on Wednesday, April 3 at 3:00 pm est. Fans from every team are hoping that their team will make the necessary moves to help make the final push to make their team better as the season is winding down.

This years trade deadline is different however, because of the shortened season. Because of the condensed schedule, alot of teams have a shot of making the playoffs this year because of the inconsistancy of alot of teams. This trade deadline is crucial for alot of teams because one right move can send a team who is not in the top eight in the standings shooting towards the playoffs. Also, because of the lack of offseason, any team could pull an upset this year no matter how much of a favorite they are.

Some moves have already been made in the past few days, but no big name players have been traded. there are certainly some big names being tossed around that could have immediate impact on teams, including Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller, Vancouver Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo, and Sabres winger Thomas Vanek.

Because some of the names being thrown around are well known hockey veterans, one thing is for certain. It will be interesting to see who goes where when 3:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon arives.
