Freak Injury Shows the Risks of Playing Sports, but Benefits Outweigh
Kevin Ware's injury may fear some athletes, but there is nothing to worry about.
By now, almost everybody has seen the gruesome injury that Louisville basketball player Kevin Ware suffered during the regional finals of the NCAA men's basketball tournement. It turned teamates away on the bench due to the severity of the injury. With this incident drawing a lot of media attention, it shows how in sports, any kind of injury can happen at any time, but that doesn't mean it will.
Some sports are obviously more dangerous than others. No matter what sport a person plays, every athlete's career is day-to-day. That does not mean people will stop playing sports though. Sports capture the minds of many young kids and it would be wrong because of a few incidents that anyone would change their viewpoint on them.
Of course, safety is the number one concern for anyone who participates in sports, but the benefits of sports out weigh the risks. The benefit of doing a physical activity and feeling good about yourself is far better than worrying about getting injured and getting nothing done. Rarely does this type of injury happen and athletes should not worry about this happening to them.
