Sitting Down with Charlie Ionata: Barrington High School Throwing Star

Charlie Ionata is a senior at Barrington High School and is an outstanding athlete who is known nationwide. Ionata was ranked #1 in the country for all throwers this past indoor season which has been a goal of his since he started throwing. With an athlete with as much talent as Ionata, one would think that he has been participating in throwing all his life, but he started freshman year. The fact that in 3 1/2 years of participation and he is that high ranking in the country just shows how much talent Ionata posesses. He competes in all throwing events, including the weight and shot put for indoor, and hammer, discus, shot put, and javelin for outdoor. For college, Ionata is attending Wake Forest University, which is a Division 1 college in the ACC with a completive track and field program. He looks forward to the new experience of college track and field. In the offseason, Ionata throws during the summer and fall and trains with a strength and conditioning coach to help with agility and explosive strength for throwing events in preperation of indoor track season. Ionata will make the town of Barrington proud as he goes off to college and competes with some of the best throwers in the nation and hopefully gets back to being the number 1 thrower in the nation.
