"The 99" Youth Event is Coming to our Area!

"The 99" Youth Event is coming to our area!

A national youth prevention program entitled "The 99" is coming to the Providence area next month!

What is "The 99"?

"The 99" is a reality walk-through production that focuses on the leading causes of death to teenagers and young adults. The purpose is to bring awareness to this issue by graphically re-enacting the end result of poor choices and showing young people that their daily decisions have very real consequences.  "The 99" represents the average of 99 young people who die every day in America from auto-related accidents, drug and/or alcohol abuse, suicide, violence and other effects.

The productions will take place in a 20,000 square-foot tent in front of the Swansea, MA mall every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening from July 12 through August 4th.  Each evening, 250 local volunteers will run the production.  We are expecting between 15,000 and 20,000 teenagers to attend the event over the 4-week period.  We will be announcing "The 99" event in newspapers, television, radio, flyers and posters.

The production is not based on fear or scare tactics, but rather is based solely on reality with each room in the tent designed to simulate real life situations. We are currently working with local police and fire departments to bring an awareness of what is killing our teenagers across America.

We are currently seeking food donations to feed the 35 volunteers who will be responsible for "setting up and tearing down" each night of the production.  If you do provide a meal, we will hang a banner that you provide at the entrance to the event to let our community know that your company cares about the future of our teenagers.  We would also love to have "home cooked" meals as well for our volunteers, so if you're interested getting together with friends to prepare a meal for 35 hungry volunteers, we'd love to hear from you!

If you are interested in donating food for the volunteers or would like more information about the event, please leave your name and contact information and we will be in touch. You can also visit their website at www.whatisthe99.com.

Thank you in advance for your willingness to promote a greater awareness of an important issue and save lives!
