Girls' Volleyball Playoff Run Ends Soon After It Starts
Exeter/West Greenwich sweeps Eagles in quarterfinal round of Rhode Island Interscholastic League tournament.
Exeter/West Greenwich ended Barrington's girls' volleyball season Monday night, Nov. 8, downing the Eagles, 3-0, to move on to the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Division II semifinals.
The seventh-seeded Eagles were trying to advance to their second consecutive final four. Instead, the second-seeded Scarlet Knights, upset during last year's quarterfinal, will play Wednesday, Nov. 10, in Keaney Gymnasium at the University of Rhode Island.
Barrington began its 2010 campaign by winning 11 of 14 matches. The Eagles had a particularly notable victory on Oct. 1, handing the 15-1 Scarlet Knights their only loss this year, 3-1.

Barrington's regular season ended with three consecutive defeats, however, including a 3-1 loss to Exeter/West Greenwich on Oct. 27. The Scarlet Knights' victory secured a Southern Division regular season crown, while the Eagles (10-4) settled for third place and a preliminary round match with Central Falls.
Monday's match, played in Exeter/West Greenwich, featured a closely contested second set, surrounded by less competitive first and third stanzas. The Scarlet Knights took the first set with relative ease, 25-16.

"Their front line definitely dominated tonight, blocking and hitting," said Barrington head coach Ron Enos. "They did a nice job of going around and over our block, just finding spots."
The Eagles' bounced back in the second set, earning 24 points before losing, which ended with Schroeder's kill from the left side. They dropped the third set, 25-20, which ended their season.
Barrington's statistical leaders included Gabriella Arig (9 kills), Holly Gildea (6 kills) and Nadia Rudman (8 aces).
