Mixed-Use Development in Works

'10 Anoka' on the corner of Anoka and Wood avenues to include two commercial buildings with apartments on second floor.

A mixed-use commercial development is being planned for the corner of Anoka Avenue and Wood Avenue.

Dubbed “10 Anoka,” the development “is exactly the type of project Barrington is trying to promote,” said Town Planner Phil Hervey.

It will include two L-shaped two-story buildings, he said, with 25 off-street parking spaces laid out between and behind the buildings.

Commercial space will be leased on the first floor. Two two-bedroom apartments will be rented on the second floors of each building.

The entrance to the development will be off of Anoka Avenue, Hervey said.

The project is the first development subject to a variety of recently approved zoning regulations, Hervey said, including the need for bicycle racks set up in relation to the number of parking spaces. It also must include sidewalks.

The development is being built by Knit One Quilt Too LLC of Barrington, according to the plans submitted for approval.

The company lists an address of 10-12 Anoka Ave. Its registered agent is Yvonne Weiss of 23 Nayatt Road in Barrington, according to the RI Secretary of State Division of Business Services.

InSite Engineering of Seekonk, Mass., a civil engineering and land-surveying firm, is the site developer, according to the plans for 10 Anoka.

Sean Ainsworth, a staff engineer with InSite, said the "architectural facade of the buildings will blend in with the neighborhood."

The site is being cleared of existing trees, he said. But a "planting plan" for the site includes 12 to 15 new trees on the site.

Hervey said the plan for the development has been reviewed by the technical review committee.
