Patch Picks: Brickyard Pond Tops Best Freshwater Fishing Holes

Trout season opens Saturday morning in Rhode Island so here are some of the best spots in the East Bay to go fishing.

Spring has sprung! Saturday kicks off the 2011 freshwater fishing season, and Lorraine Danti, owner of  in Warren, has some suggestions on where to go. So grab a pole, get some bait and go fishing this weekend!

  1. One of the closest fishing holes and the most popular is Brickyard Pond in Barrington.
  2. Venture over the bridge, to visit Melville Ponds*, a popular spot in Portsmouth.
  3. In the Tiverton area, some great places are Adamsville Brook and Pond, Eight Rod Farm Pond, and Stafford Pond*.
  4. Just a skip away from Tiverton, Little Compton offers freshwater fishing at Dunderry Brook (including Wigwam pond).
  5. If you are looking for a great place to take the whole family, Danti suggests Olney Pond located in Lincoln Woods.
  6. Is your child tired of watching all the pros catch the big fish? Try Slater Park Pond in Pawtucket, or Geneva Brook & Pond in North Providence, where only minors under the age of 14 are allowed to fish.
