Card skimmers are devices that read bank and credit card information to steal people's money. Looking for a fun, active, and uniquely coastal way to kick off your June? Whether you’ve never dipped an oar in the water or you’re looking to get back into the rhythm, come celebrate National Learn to Row Day with the Whirlygigs Rowing group and friends!
Yes, it’s a real thing! Celebrated across the country on the first Saturday in June, National Learn to Row Day is all about sharing the joy of being on the water. Here in the East Bay, we are keeping it completely relaxed, family-friendly, and focused on fun.
This is your chance to try out a fantastic, eclectic fleet of rowboats. We will have a wide variety of traditional craft on hand to explore, including:
<ul><li>The sleek Silver Lining * The beautiful Cady and Lady Moody</li><li>Classic dinghies, traditional coracles, and the Bullocks’ Cove fleet</li><li>Kayaks, jolly boats, and more!</li></ul>
No experience? No problem! Our friendly local volunteers (just look for the folks in the red shirts!) will be on the beach and in the water to help you pick the perfect boat, get launched safely, and share a few pointers so you can master the basics—or at least avoid crashing into each other too much!
What’s provided:
<ul><li>All boats, oars, and life jackets (PFDs) are provided on-site.</li><li>Complimentary coffee, donuts, snacks, and water to keep your energy up.</li><li>Ziploc bags to keep your phones dry while you're out on the water.</li></ul>
What to bring:
Just your sense of adventure, comfortable clothes that can get a little damp, and the whole family!
Follow the signs from the Bike Path right down to the sand at Warren Town Beach. Come for an hour or stay for the morning—we can't wait to row with you!
Safety Note: For everyone's peace of mind, we will have dedicated safety kayak patrols on the perimeter and coordination with the local Harbor Patrol. All participants must follow volunteer guidance and wear a provided life jacket before heading out.
