Search Continues for Missing Triathlete

Stas Antons has not been seen since Thursday.

The search for Stas Antons, a Barrington resident and triathlete who went missing in the waters near Barrington Town Beach Thursday, is continuing in Narragansett Bay on Friday.

Antons, an accomplished triathlete, has not been heard from since Thursday and a large search effort has been underway since Thursday night.

Members of the Narragansett Bay Marine Task Force, the U.S. Coast Guard and others have been scanning the water.

Antons’ boat was anchored near Barrington Beach but searchers found it empty.

Barrington Fire Chief Gerald Bessette said Friday that the U.S. Coast Guard stopped its portion of the search on Friday, though local crews continue to search.

“We have a missing person and we’re reacting to that missing person,” he said.

Antons is a director at TIAA-CREF in the greater Boston area, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Antons has competed at the Ironman distance and moved to Barrington recently. He is a member of the FuelBelt Race team, which has about 150 members who participate in a variety of races and events.

Searchers will continue their work Friday.
