SEND A KID IN FOSTER CARE TO SUMMER CAMP
Swimming in the lake, sleeping in a tent and s’mores melting over a campfire should be part of every child’s summer experience. But for many children in state care, summer camp, even for one week, is just not affordable. The good news is that Adoption Rhode Island through the generosity of people like you will be sending almost sixty foster children to camp this year. The ECC (Episcopal Conference Center) in Pascoag, Camp Aldersgate in N. Scituate, and Camp Canonicus in Exeter have graciously reduced their campership rates for kids in foster care whose goal is adoption.
Lots of great things can happen at camp. You learn that you like to swim. Or that archery is fun. And siblings in care (who through no fault of their own live apart from one another year round) get a chance to spend at least one week together feeling like normal brothers and sisters! Many of the children in state care don’t have the basics either, like a sleeping bag, towel, sunscreen, etc. so each of our campers also receive a duffel bag filled to the brim with those items. One of our campers wrote a special thank you to ARI, short but sweet: “Thanks for all the camp stuff. I really liked it.”

This is the gift that keeps giving as some of the kids did so well in years past that they have been asked to return this year as Counselors in Training!
