Voters Extend Four Town Farm Lease

Voters at Barrington's Financial Town Meeting approve a 20-year lease that extends the farm's use of 40 acres of land at Nockum Hill.

Voters approved a new 20-year lease for 40 acres of farm land at the Financial Town Meeting on Wednesday night, May 23.

The lease is with Four Town Farms of Seekonk, which has been using 40 acres of land that surrounds the Doug Rayner Wildlife Sanctuary at Nockum Hill for 19 years.

Voters were asked to approve an extension of that lease for another two decades at a rental price of $10,000 a year or $250 an acre. Not a dissenting voice was heard.

Town Manager Peter DeAngelis Jr. said the farm needs a 20-year lease so it can better plan the use of the fields for crops.

The Four Town Farm lease must be used for agricultural purposes only. The Town Council approved the lease at its May 14 meeting. It had to be approved at a Financial Town Meeting because it exceeds two years.
