Rhode Island Seafood Company In Warren Recalls Clams: State

The clams were harvested from an area that had been closed because of rainfall, the Rhode Island Department of Health explained.

WARREN, RI — The Rhode Island Seafood Company in Warren has initiated a clam recall, the state announced.

The clams in question were harvested last month from an "area that had been closed because of rainfall," according to the Rhode Island Department of Health.

"Heavy rain can prompt closures in clamming areas because stormwater runoff can make products unsafe to eat," the department explained in a media release.

"All clams harvested on that date were sent to Tony's Seafood in Warren," the release said.

"Tony's Seafood is notifying customers and is removing affected products from commerce. Products were shipped to other locations in Massachusetts and Connecticut," according to the release. "These out-of-state contacts are also being notified. No illnesses have been reported in association with this recall."

The health department encouraged anyone who believes they were sickened by something they ate to report it through its foodborne illness complaint system either by phone at 401-222-2749 or through RIDOH's online form.
