Buying Local at Mount Hope Farmers Market

I like to support local farmers at the Mount Hope Farm Winter Farmers' Market.

Do you know where your food comes from? Well now you certainly can know! This past Saturday I went to the . In my experience, whenever something like this starts it usually has just a few vendors and a small turn out, but this was not the case. There was a wonderful turn out from people in the community as well as the surrounding towns. Of course the weather could not have been better with temperatures in the 50s. There was also a great array of vendors. You could do your entire grocery shopping there if you planned properly.

I think it is important to say that there is meat and fish as well with prices no higher than Whole Foods (and you don't have to drive to Providence). The vendors include: Windmist Farm, Cupcakerie, The Local Catch, Provencal Bakery, The Coffee Guy, Wishingstone Farm, Aquidneck HoneyFarmacy Herbs, Wholly Granola, Mapleville Farm, Aquidneck Farm and Moonlight Rose Alpaca. All of the bases are covered here including fish, meat, poultry, veggies, snacks, coffee, eggs, bread and baked goods. I also spotted some pretty amazingly large cookies that made a few little girls' day.

My husband and I immensely enjoyed everything we purchased from fish and eggs to peanut butter and veggies. The birds that produce the eggs seem to get fed a better diet than myself and the taste reflects that! Our favorite purchase however was a bag of granola from Wholly Granola. I encourage everyone to try this. If you have ever read the label of even the "healthiest" granola you will be amazed at what is in it.

If you can get the family mobilized this Saturday I highly recommend checking out the market so that you can all know where your food comes from.
