Warren Should be Ready for Hurricanes, Blizzards
We need to prepare now for the impending winter snow.
I am responding to the article in the Patch on Sept 13, regarding the . DPW representative Judy Fardig stated the slow pick up was to due the large amount of debris and it overwhelmed the DPW, and what was noted there were only 8 men made available for the pick up. I commented on the article as why the town had not hired outside landscapers to help with the clean up, in which I made calls to the Town Manager and emailed those concerns and as usual a delayed response.
In a email from his secretary a few days ago, she responded that the town is just now applying for FEMA funds, however, FEMA will not pay out to any outside company unless approved by FEMA. With that addressing my question, my next question is why doesn't the town have landscape companies on contract that are FEMA approved? If this was done the clean up process would have been much faster, and would not have overwhelmed the DPW as described in the article.
I would also assume that this would apply for snow plowing too. My opinion would be why is the town not ready to respond to (after the storm is over with enough man power, and equipment) to do the job in a resonable time frame and not have the 4-5 week wait after the storm. We were lucky to escape with what damage did occur, but what if that storm was a cat 1 or 2, the DPW would still be picking up debris with snow on it. I have to critize town officials for not planning ahead. If we get hit with a 5ft snow fall, it will takes weeks to get plowed out, Let's get prepared and have these contractors ready to go "SEMPA PARATUS".
